Linoleum Block Prints, Etchings, Embossings and Posters
A linoleum block print that shows my reflections of somewhere between Carmel, California, and Pebble Beach, on the coast. My plan for the image was for it to be a still life. I later decided to put Jerome, a dog, in the middle of the print. As it turned out, a very energetic “still life”.
Print: 20 1/8″ x 13 3/4″ ~ Cost $700.00
Poster: 34 3/4″ x 27 5/8″ ~ Cost $85.00
A linoleum block print where I used a mandala for the first time in one of my print editions. The female on the left came from a drawing that I reversed as it worked better in the composition.
Print: 9 1/8″ x 11 3/4″ ~ Cost $275.00
Poster: 27″ x 31″ ~ Cost 80.00
A zinc plate etching, using hydrochloric acid rather than sulfuric acid for a different effect. The title came from a car license plate which seemed to sum up the image.
Print: 7 3/4″ x 6 3/8″ ~ Cost $200.00
Poster: 35″ x 27 9/16: ~ Cost $85.00
A linoleum block print resulting from a 20 second drawing. I later decided to use the simple composition in a print edition. After I finished printing, I had to come up with a title for the print.
“Zen Ho” popped into my head. I said, “What does ‘Zen Ho’ mean?” Numerous ideas sprung to mind, but it’s entirely possible that subconscious, pleasant memories from my childhood had surged to the forefront. Hours had been spent with my parents and siblings watching westerns on television, among them, “Wagon Train.” Ward Bond had urged the train forward into the wilderness and across the prairies with his cries of “Wagons, ho!” Even so do I venture out into the known and unknown in my Surreal Primitive style.
The first half of this drawing was spontaneous and from the unconscious. After I saw what I had drawn, the second half of the drawing was enhanced through conscious thought. I added in the horizon line and the front facial line to give just the illusion of a face. Next, I added in the line that helped create the edge of the figure’s hair. Since this drawing came from a combination of both sources, “Zen Ho” seemed to fit perfectly. The first half drawn without any thought to it (an Eastern Zen approach) and the completion made with consciously drawn lines (a Western approach). My impression of the print is that it looks like a Davy Crockett of the mind.
Print: 16″ x 11 3/8″ ~ Cost $300.00
Poster: 22 5/8″ x 17 7/16″ ~ Cost $65.00
An etching on zinc plate using sulfuric acid. At the time of this drawing, I owned a 1962 Volkswagen Bus. I am the figure driving the bus. To me, the vehicle looks like a galleon from Spain in the sixteenth century without its sails.
Print: 8 1/4″ x 8 1/2″ ~ Cost $200.00
Poster: 31″ x 30 7/8″: ~ Cost $85.00
A linoleum block print that came about by combining spontaneous drawings while out in California, looking at the coastline, which can be seen through the window. The rest of the print is made up of pieces that were consciously and unconsiously created later. When I finished the print, I noticed that the blue birds were asleep. It all made sense; everyone has blue birds. When your blue birds are asleep you could be feeling great and when they are awake, you are feeling “blue”.
Print: 17″ x 12 5/8″ ~ Cost $425.00
Poster: 29 5/8″ x 22 7/8″ ~ Cost $75.00
An etching using zinc plates and nitric acid showing animals around a spring fountain. The print comes from three separate zinc plates, cut to fit together. If you look at the fountain, you’ll see there are two white lines on either side of it. They are the edges of the three plates coming together like a puzzle.
Print: 12 1/2″ x 14 3/8″ ~ Cost $200.00
Poster: 26 7/8″ x 30 3/8″ ~ Cost $80.00
A linoleum block print of a mandala that has bright colors which intermix.

Poster: 28 1/4″ x 30 3/4″ ~ Cost $85.00
An etching done on zinc plate with nitric acid. The persons, birds, sleeping dog fountain, fish, and tea cup set were drawn at different times on different days. Maribel was a woman from Honduras with whom I had a relationship.

Poster: 35″ x 23 3/4″ ~ Cost $85.00
A linoleum block print that was printed on the front and back sides of rice paper. The sky and ground were printed on the back side of the print. I had to make the printing inks very thin so that the ink would show up coming through from the back side to the front. Each animal and plant was spontaneously drawn at different times and consciously placed together. When I started to put color down onto the rice paper, I had thought that the sky would be blue and the grass, green. The only two colors that would come through the rice paper were the yellow and brown colors that I used for the print. After finishing the print, the title became self-evident. It showed the anticipation and energy of going out.
Print: 10 7/8″ x 9 3/4″ ~ Cost $300.00
Poster: 20 1/2″ x 18 7/16″ ~ Cost $65.00
A linoleum block print that shows my hopes and aspirations of visiting a lover in Honduras. As John Lennon said: “Life happens while you are busy making other plans”. The ink on this print has a propensity to fade, so the piece requires ultraviolet protection glass and needs to be kept out of the sun.

An etching on zinc plate employing nitric acid. The title shows the extent of my French. I’m always drawing birds and these were drawn at different times. It is my last lip beak; they really do not work.

Poster: 33″ x 32 1/8″ ~ Cost $90.00
A linoleum block print that I created for the close knit group of spiritual pioneers with which I am associated. As it says, it’s about spirituality and higher consciousness.

A linoleum block print in which I had drawn animals and then saw in the composition different types of relationships you could have. It could be a relationship with an older mature person or a younger, less mature person. The bird is speaking the title of the print.

One of my earliest etchings on zinc plate using nitric acid. This is of Diamond Jim with his dog Ruben. We are seeing Jim’s visual thoughts: a young man with dog; stomach with lips, eye, and tongue; and his naked aunt with dog.
